A night to honor Marilyn Monroe

Last Wednesday night my friend Trisha and I had the honor of being invited to the opening of the Marilyn Monroe Exhibit at the Hollywood Museum.  It was a truly special occasion with all of the class and elegance Marilyn exuded.  This year marks fifty years of her passing and it almost felt like she was right there as we snapped pictures in the mirror of dressing room she frequented.  We learned about everything from her famous makeup artist, Max Factor, to the numerous places she lived in the LA area.  It was such an intimate showing of her photos, belongings, and history in the industry.  I very much hope you enjoy my images of this special occasion.  Many thanks to my friend Paige Guritzky for the invite!!!!

Paige, Trisha, and Me snapping a quick shot in the mirror in one of the famous Hollywood Theater dressing rooms.  I love all of the old cosmetics strewn about.  It felt like Marilyn or Lucille Ball had just touched up her lipstick.

The icon's fabulous leather gloves and brooch.

Marilyn was known for her curves.  She was the envy of all movie stars with a 22" waist.

Her pink feather boa.  Just one of her many accessories.

Green beaded Pucci belt, studded leather belt, and interesting facts about her weight and measurements through the years.

Sparkling wine with custom Swarovski crystal labels to celebrate her life.

Mink stole seen in the picture on the left and an oversized cardigan.  I love how fashion comes full circle.  This men's style sweater is on trend today.

A few snapshots for wardrobe references.  I think they are superb :)

Her Playboy calendar.  The epitome of sex appeal.

So many excellent candid shots.  I would die for this blouse!

The last shots ever taken of her.  Again I love the chunky sweater and how comfortable she seems to just be herself.

Old + New

Hi everyone!!!  I am sooooo sorry I have been a bit absent lately, but I promise to not let life get in the way and continue to be creative through Social Garb.  I had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and felt inspired by adding a few new pieces to my existing wardrobe.   Here I wore a FABULOUS pair of high waisted denim from the 70's and paired it with a current trend, an open back top.  I love how the sheerness gives it dimension.  I am on the hunt for other bandeau tops to throw under loose tanks for this wonderful summer that is upon us.  The necklace is also a vintage piece I found in NOLA on my bachelorette trip.  Its always great to get accessories while traveling because they send those wonderful memories flooding back.

androgynous styles

androgynous styles

I am always in to a good androgynous look through hairstyle or wardrobe.  So many trendsetters have made it look good like Janet Jackson and Tilda Swinton.  It's no secret that I love short hair, and going for a slightly more androgynous cut can really help you achieve a much edgier vibe.  Neutral colors and classic patterns like plaids can be pulled off for both men and women alike.  Here I have found some great pieces like a tan trench and a pair of canvas sneakers that really fill the space between girlie and masculine.  Don't ever be afraid to just be.

Fabulous footwear!

My latest purchase!  Madden Girl cork with ankle strap :)

Trusty Leopard Nine West Pumps from last season

Fabulous footwear!
Hello all my fellow fashion addicts!!  Sorry it's been a while since I've given you your fashion fix.  I will do my best to keep the good stuff coming.  Today I want to focus on all of the awesome statement shoes that are everywhere.  In the past I have gravitated towards neutrals but not this season!  There is just way too much colorful fabulousness to pass up.  If you want a floral, polka dot or even a trusty animal print its really everywhere.  I love that all different heel heights and shapes are in, and there is an awesome selection of fun flats in stores too! I am a sucker for anything vintage and regularly look for inexpensive shoes on etsy.com  like the multicolored flats above.  I always want to give you a range in price so that everyone can update their wardrobe in style.  Any of these lovelies would take an ordinary outfit, day, or attitude to the next level.  Good luck finding your perfect fit!
